Every person carries two lives: the one they show the world, and the one that waits quietly beneath it. In Northern Virginia we become very good at the first, so good that we forget it is a performance. The student who has done everything right and cannot say why it feels hollow. The couple approaching a wedding, wondering whether their doubt is ordinary or a warning. The marriage grown quiet, two competent people who no longer recognize each other. The parent whose grief cannot be scheduled around a demanding calendar. The professional at the height of a career, restless in a way no promotion will answer. These are not symptoms to be silenced. They are the psyche insisting on being heard. Carl Jung wrote that "until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate." What we refuse to face does not disappear. It waits, and returns wearing the mask of circumstance: the argument you keep having, the pattern that repeats with a different face, the anxiety no reasoning will dissolve. Decades of research have confirmed what Carl Rogers understood first: what heals in therapy is not the technique but the relationship itself. Met with genuineness, empathy, and regard that carries no conditions, something in a person begins to unfold that no method alone can produce. I am not here to analyze you from across a desk or hand you someone else's map. I am here to know you, and to make it safe for you to know yourself. I did not come to this work from the outside. Alongside my clinical training, I have spent years in the world of financial services, defense, and technology that shapes this region, and I know the expectation intimately: carry everything, reveal nothing. That world taught me to find the pattern inside complexity. This one taught me that some patterns cannot be solved, only understood, felt, and finally released. Most people do not have the words when they first reach out. They know only that the old way of holding it together has stopped working.
